february love mix

February is coming to a close and I made up this little mix for a certain occasion. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

SONOIO – Suck Up Everything.mp3
Countless ‘end of summer’ and ‘fall’ playlists are abound these days. While these playlists romanticize the change of season, I find myself in a verisimilitude state of mind. As the seasons change, we are witness to the cyclical and rhythmic mechanics of a timeless process, stretching far before us and into the furthest imaginable future. Sonoio‘s release, Suck Up Everything, accurately personifies this type of mechanical and forward driving process that is difficult to express lexicographically. Sonoio, the brain child of Alessandro Cortini (NiN member ’04-’08), releases its first full length September 14, 2010.

The Glitch Mob – Animus Vox.mp3
The Glitch Mob – Between Two Points feat. Swan.mp3
With all of the pop music I have been listening to lately (TNP have taken over my world), I was pleasantly caught off guard when I came across this premiere LP from the DJ/producer conglomerate group The Glitch Mob. I found that their pseudo-downtempo and persuasive beats will penetrate your brain and slowly melt it away with a tenacious wall of sound and palatable, dance-friendly bass lines. Furthermore, their ostensibly minimalistic approach is a surprising suasion, one that always seems to win me over, no matter the genre. The only shortcoming l can see is they they might be nailing the niche-genere too well; in that if you don’t like the first song of theirs you hear, you will probably not like the rest. So give TGM a try, you may be pleasantly surprised. The full album, due out May 25th, is available to stream after the jump.

Marina And The Diamonds – I Am Not A Robot (Clock Opera Remix).mp3
To say that I have been looking forward to this remix would be a gross understatement. It has been four months since neongoldrecords, Marina and the Diamond‘s US debuting record label, were heralding it as the most amazing thing they had ever heard. Not surprisingly, I have been impatiently waiting ever since. The waiting has finally ended.
This remix is a shining example of the subtle art of remixing. It stands out in stark contrast to an environment contaminated with an overabundance of noisy, distracted, and limp attempts at reinterpretation. Clock Opera‘s chop pop style shines through this striking track; the result is distinct and interpretive in its differences, yet solidly grounded in its connection to the original. This is, in my opinion, the gold standard for a well refined remix. Also, having heard an early leak of the track, the mastering of this version is much better and heralds the epic nature appropriately.

Ellie Goulding – Wish I Stayed.mp3
Ellie Goulding – Salt Skin.mp3
As anyone following me on twitter already knows, my infatuation with Ellie Goulding is anything but subdued. I first picked up her debut EP from Neon Gold back in October and have never looked back. Today marks a new chapter in her indubitably bright future with the release of her first full length LP, Lights, on Polydor Records. There is no doubt in my mind that this album will be at the top of my favorites at the conclusion of this lap around the sun.

Die Antwoord – Enter the Ninja.mp3
Die Antwoord – I Dont Need You.mp3
Die Antwoord’s mematic rise to interweb popularity in the past three weeks since their release of their video for Enter the Ninja has been nothing short of entertaining. Showcasing some iconic imagery and a strong production value to boot, it is easy to see that their success was not haphazardly achieved. All cultural relevance aside, the South African troop’s music presents a strong case for admirable entertainment at face value. I am not typically a large proponent of rap based entities, however, I found most of the tracks on $0$ (out ‘soon’) surprisingly listenable and largely enjoyable. Weird is the new normal.

Andrew Koji Shiraki, a dear friend of mine and a devoted artist/humanitarian extrodinare is in the home stretch of a monumental kickstarter campaign ending 12 Feb 2010. As you already know if you have just finished watching the above video, Koji, in conjunction with being a touring artist, also dedicates an extraordinary portion of his time to humanitarian efforts. This campaign directly enables his active participation and support of such efforts. ‘Kickstarting’ his project at varying degrees will also guarantee you some sweet exclusive memorabilia and pre-release recordings. One key point to stress: if the target amount is not reached by the deadline all of the donations will be returned and the project will not be funded. Check out the project page for full description and details. Fundrasing progress widget and tour dates after the jump.

Monarchy – Black The Colour Of My Heart
While the information about Monarchy is scarce, their production repertoire is not deficient. All known information is on their myspace, but all you really need is to listen to know that these guys are primed for greatness. Be on the lookout for a physical release on Neon Gold in February.
Clock Opera‘s architect Guy Connelly describes his work as ‘Chop Pop’, highlighting the deconstruction of sounds and reassembling the micro samples and electronic blips into complex soundscapes. Regardless of taxonomy, his work wholly satisfies my palatable desire for strongly orchestrated, electronic infused pop. White Noise came out today and was found at Illegal Tender (+interview). Also keep your ears open for an impending Marina and the Diamonds remix by Clock Opera that Neon Gold Records has been teasing me with for almost a week now.
